Students participating in the Hour of Code on December 8, 2015.
We visited the offices of IMC located in Willis Tower. Students and
employees did computer programming together. IMC provided
lunch and a special gift for our students. This was a wonderful
opportunity for our students. Thank you IMC!

Technology Guidelines

Acceptable Use Policy

The George Washington Elementary School Computer Lab will continue to be a valuable resource for teachers and students as we transition to the Common Core Standards.  In the computer lab we are dedicated to assisting students to develop technology and communication skills for the 21st century.  Our computer lab has a variety of learning programs to assist students in acquiring knowledge, software programs such as Raz-kids, Lexia, Achieve 3000,  Teach Your Monster to Read, Starfall, Code.org, , GoMath, Khan Academy, and Everfi.  In order for student learning to be enhanced and provide engaging lessons, it is important that your child knows and adheres to the computer lab routines and procedures.

  • Be Polite
  • Listen attentively and participate in the computer lab lesson.
  • Bring necessary supplies (computer/library) folder with password sheet.
  • Work independently and in groups to complete assignments.
  • Abide by CPS Policy for internet use.
  • Use programs and websites responsibly and ethically.
  • Visit only  the assigned databases or website for research.  Students going to or using other websites, when not a part of the classroom activity or assignment is prohibited and will be given a yellow ticket and points will be taken off participation grade.
  • Students will be given yellow tickets for lack of proper behavior in the computer lab, and will be removed for a serious offense.
  • If a child purposely breaks technology equipment, parents/guardians will be subject to pay for the damaged item and penalized according to the CPS Code of Conduct.
  • GWES school policy requires that  bullying in any form is not tolerated including social networking sites and CPS student e-mail.
  • Students altering any settings on the computers, laptops, or iPads is prohibited and will be given a yellow ticket
  • Students should bring their own headphones/earbuds to computer class.

Furthermore, please read and discuss with your child the importance of the following terms and conditions for Student Use of the CPS Network.  I understand that failure to follow technology guidelines including those listed in the CPS Code of Conduct may result in my child’s exclusion from using Washington technology devices.

___ I have read and discussed with my child the importance of following the Terms and Conditions for Student Use of the CPS Network.  A full copy of the Terms and Conditions of the CPS Network can be found at http://policy.cps.k12.il.us/documents/604.1.pdf.

Sincerely,
